As with other internet ephemera, the geekcode has disappeared from people’s signatures. I never bothered looking at what the list of characters actually meant but merely seeing it on someone’s signature meant they had some sort of connection to the geek brotherhood, an email mezuzah, if you will.

Being a reader of the Guardian’s Comment is Free website, I wonder whether the politics section of the geekcode can be updated to include people’s position on the Iraq War, the war on terror, globalisation, the Metropolitan Police etc, such that each person who posts or comments can display their political credentials for easy parsing along with their name, so you can prejudge what they are about to say before you have actually read it.
