I would set myself up at a table within sight of the TV, put on the PG tapes and start "studying". My theory was that I'd get to distracted without some kind of background noise (not a totally nutty theory) and that I'd seen all the episodes of PG so often that I could just treat it as background noise, and not really get involved in the stories (an utterly mindless theory, of purest optimism). By the way, I don't know how old he subject is now (I handed in my honours thesis yesterday, and hence have just read all of the list posts for about three weeks at once) but there was some talk about some of the goings on in The Week and Pizza. Personally, I just loved the whole idea of the pizza meetings; not just in that they sound like fun, but having seen heaps of PG episodes by the time I saw it, it was great to suddenly be presented with something that had been going on (presumably) for most of the time that we'd 'known them', and we hadn't yet heard about. I thought it really reinvigorated interest to think that there was a whole other set of newsroom customs that we hadn't been privy to; much like knowing someone at work/uni/school for several years and then unexpectedly finding out that they were one of the cities best-known jazz musicians on weeekends or something else which seemed equally unlikely (don't ask where the hell I got that analogy from - lay off me, I've missed a lot of sleep lately :) ).
