I remember reading somewhere, probably in the (quite excellent) Press Gang program guide that when Steven Moffat was about to start writing, he asked his students (he was an English teacher I believe) what their favourite shows were, they responded that they were the same as his, so he just went along writing a show without worrying too much about "catering for children". (I still get a warm feeling writing about this - it's such an impressive attitude to take: "Just because it's a kids show doesn't mean I have to 'dumb it down'" [Apologies for the phrase 'dumb it down' - I just discovered what it was after several years of mishearing it in a movie, and I can't seem to get it out of my system.] Ah well, can't sit around dreaming all night (lest it be while asleep).
