Hi - I'm a bit new to all this, so please bear with me... I was just browsing through some of the archive stuff and came upon the Doctor Who material...I just thought I'd throw in a few thoughts. 1.) The book was mentioned that started the whole discussion going was the Doctor Who New Adventure, "Conundrum" by Steve Lyons (published by Virgin Publishing, but probably no longer available - you might be able to pick up a copy if you're lucky) - Steve Lyons being, as far as I'm aware, involved with the Liverpool Society of Cult Television, who, guess what, organised the "Both Side of the Paper" conventions. Also, he contributed some material to the "Press Gang" programme guide. 2.) Until I read the PG references in "Conundrum" I'd been a bit of a closet PG fan, but actually it turns out there are quite a few "Doctor Who" fans who are also into PG - Anthony Brown (who's currently the reviews editor for SFX magazine) being one. 3.) "Doctor Who"/"Wavelength" writer Paul Cornell is also a PG fan - check out the glowing write-up he gave PG in the Guiness Book of Classic British Television. One of his New Adventures was renamed Love and War in honour of the PG episode of the same name. 4.) Just to even the balance, Steven Moffatt is a "Doctor Who" fan - he had a review of the show's 19th season published in "In-Vision" magazine, the season 19 special [I've absolutely no idea if back issues are available, but if they are, could someone let me know 'cos I'm missing a few...], as well as the short story already mentioned. 5.) I can sort of get the "Doctor Who" connection with "Colonel X," but I too thought it [ie Colonel X] had far more in common with the '60s/'70s ITC series...but there's a problem with the timing there - isn't Frazz writing about the show's tenth anniversary, or something? Which would make it long after shows of that nature stopped being made! Or am I just being incredibly picky..? On a completely unrelated note, is it just me or is "Chalk" utter tripe? I couldn't believe it was by the same man who wrote PG - about the only bits I found funny were the PG in-jokes, and if it weren't for them (and, I suppose, the school setting) I'd have sworn there must be two writers both called Steven Moffatt, but one an utter genius...and the other not. Oh well. Signing off - and sorry this one's so long.
