Well, there was definitely some changes in the fifth series - yellow carpet appeared to replace the (concrete?) floors of the earlier series. This is one of PG's few cross-series continuity errors actually - in the Lynda/Sarah flashback in "Friends Like These" the yellow carpet can be seem in the newsroom, despite the fact that it wasn't there in the time between series 2 and three when the scene was set. (Picky, moi? Surely not! :) ) With regards to the set - I always had the impression (well, in the first two series at least) that the Newroom really was a room - rather than a major set construction - it seemed to have a ceiling, and four walls - I'd wondered about what it was like to direct in actually.
