<< From what I recall, for the first series the newsroom really *was* a
room - I'm not sure, but I think they shot it in the same building as
they used for exteriors (unless anyone else knows any better?).
However, at some point between series one and two, the building was
scheduled for demolition - hence they had to rush through as many
exteriors as possible and from that series onwards the newsroom
became a studio set - this also accounts for the differences between
series, as different studios were used for each series. I think.
Except series 3 & 4, obviously...

that makes quite a bit of sense, because, in my marathon viewing of all the
epsidoes, i have so far noticed that the door is wood in series one and only
opens one way, while in series two, the door is (!) blue-ish green and swings
both ways. i must skip series three and four, because i have yet to watch
them, but in series five the door is back to being wood, only it swings both
ways.
