I think that's true of nearly every relationship in PG. For all the friendships you'll see, there is always an edge to them. Lynda doesn't trust even her best friends. Spike and Frazz disagree about Spike's dating of Lynda. Nobody seems to like Colin very well most of the time, but Colin seems to think everyone likes him. You can go down the list and find these sorts of things with every character. For my money, the scene in S5 that defines the state of Lynda and Spike is in WINDFALL where Lynda is seriously messing with Julie's head over the phone and the camera pans back to reveal Spike in the background grinning at her. They may fight, and loudly when they do, but these are two people who are very much in love, and are very much in on a good laugh. Which for a character whose lack of humorous intent was a running gag in the early years, is a real leap forward.
