The news team would have followed any story Lynda wanted them to for fear of having their families killed. Donald didn't have to slip away he was part of a group. Lynda was more then offering Donald a way out I think she was going to let him have a job on the news team. Donald was her attempt to get over her guilt over David's suicide. She had been a part of distoying peoples self esteme and here was a case to help build someones up. But then again I do tend to see the best in Lynda's actions for some strange reason.
