employed to impress other men for service, especially in the navy or
army.
And from the equally trusty Oxford English Dictionary:
press-gang: (historical) body of men employed to press men.
So in the case of *our* Press Gang it would be Kerr and Sullivan who
were the press-gang and not Linda, Kenny, Spike et al (except in the
literal sense of being a gang of people who worked in the press).
