Do you mean how popular was it, or why was it popular? In answer to
the first, I don't know; I'd guess about average for a children's
series, although it seems to have a large core of fans who, like
myself, are a little too old to have been viewing childrens'
programmes when it first came out. In other words, I'd say it's got
quite a cult following.
As for the second variation on the question, simple answer: it was
popular because it was the best programme anywhere, ever, in the
whole wide world.
