One of them is that the laws of physics, especially electromagnetics, are different on TV. This explains how similar situations have occured in other shows. In one X-Files ep I remember Mulder was chatting away on his phone while completly enclosed in some subterrainin metal tube type thingi filled with the corpses of human/alien mutant beings (as you do). Most likely, however, is that Lynda simply scared the damn thing into working.
