Lenny Bruce was a bit before my time (late 50's early 60's) but was
supposedly the filthiest mouthed comic ever. He would not clean up his act
to get on Carson or the Ed Sullivan show. He was the first comic in
America to do stream=of=conciousness type acts. Before him people
did one liners or skit type things. Most modern comedians grew up
listening to him. Supposed to have been dead funny, though....
Carlin is easier to explain since he is still around. He has specials on
HBO a couple of times a year over here. In fact, he has a book out now
that's on the NY Times best sellers list. Carlin started in the 60's too --
his most famous (and still is) bit was "The Seven Dirty Words You Can't Say
on Television" which is still one of the best comedy bits I have ever heard.
I also still love "A Place for Your Stuff" about how traveling is just
trying to find a place for your stuff.
okay, it is offfical I feel old now.
