I agree - definitely the weakest of that series - and I agree that a bit more Spike and Lynda would have helped. The episodes which I thought were a bit weaker (compared with PG's usual standard, if not TV in general) - like "Picking Up The Pieces" and to a lesser extent, "Money, Love And Birdseed"(the latter with the exception of Colin's scenes) - were saved for me by the progression of Spike and Lynda's relationship in the sub-plots (Spike beating up some kids for writing something about Lynda and Lynda campaigning for Spike's suspension to be overturned; the "birthday treat concert tickets"). >Its also true that the last series wasn't as busy as the earlier ones, >when they were at school but I think the characters needed to grow up. Yeah, there was definitely a change of pace in series five; largely due to the absence of "lets get the scoop" episodes, which create so much activity (The Big Hello, How To Make A Killing). Like you, I wasn't bothered by the change. >And though it was short and not always so sweet series it did have >the brilliance that is "There Are Crocodiles" - a most fitting final >episode without the ambiguity of "Day Dreams" - "I think". Well, maybe a _bit_ of ambiguity :) (ie the freeze-frame ending). I agree about TAC - yet another quality episode, and a hell of a show with which to end the series. I read Renee's post about having the opening monologue on her wall. I think I'll folow her example (I have a photo frame at uni that I keep quote's into muse at during spare moments - it's cuurently devoid of PG quotes - SHAME!). Thanks also to Renee for her long post about why she loves Press Gang - you were most eloquent, and I'm sure you summed it up for all of us.
