"Monkey" was a Japanese production, retelling the traditional Chinese
Monkey King legends. They made one and a half seasons before the actor
playing the Buddhist monk type (Tripitaka?) had to stop acting with
terminal cancer.
"Ulysses 31" was another Japanese show, dubbed into English by Saban
(who also dubbed Mysterious Cities Of Gold). It had 26 episodes and
followed space captain Ulysses, his son Telemicus, alien girl Umi and small
red robot Nono in their odyssey (also the name of their eye-shaped
spaceship) to find the kingdom of Hades.
Sadly I have no Mysterious Cities Of Gold or Monkey on tape, but I do have
nine episodes of Ulysses.
Cheers!
Grant.
