Both shows form a subgenre of Japanese television, beginning with Gatchaman
(G-Force) in the early 1970s that is based around a martial-artist
colour-coded team. Both Voltron and Power Rangers are descendants of this
genre. (So is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.)
