Hello all preple who love pressgang (ie. all of you if you know what's best
for you)
I have been meaning to write this for at least a week but I haven't been
able to because we have been having building done in our house and as a
result have been disconnected for a while.
Anyway back to the point. I realised a week ago while watching "Holding On"
that there was something wrong. If I interpreted it correctly, Colin's idea
was to convince Lynda that Mr Maringo was hypnotising people to do
embarassing things so that she would write about it on the front page. To
prove this he arranged for Spike and Lynda to get hypnotised (he arranged
photos of them for Mr Maringo and for the guy with the phone so I am pretty
sure he arranged it). Anyway if Mr Maringo was a fake (and Colin knew
that)why did they arrange for Spike and Lynda to get hypnotised. Mr Maringo
said himself that he never expected to suceed with Spike and Lynda. If he
didn't suceed with Spike and Lynda why would Lynda write about it? Therefore
the whole thing about getting Spike and Lynda hypnotised would have been a
waste of time.
Another thing that I noticed was that in "Interface" (the mystery writer
one), there was a newspaper in the background. On it was the outline of a
head with a question mark in it (the thing that was used to advertise the
mystery writer). However the part in the episode that I saw it was near the
begining and they hadn't even recieved and reviews from "the mystery writer"
let alone advertised it.
Has anyone else noticed these things? Don't get me wrong I definately do not
sit watching Press Gang in the hope that I would find something wrong with
it. In fact they are the only two problems that I have ever noticed (which
is remarkably good for any TV show.
By the way when everyone was talking about what were their favourite
programmes (sorry about bringing this up again Natacha)I couldn't help
noticing that hardly anyone liked things with the same people in as Press
Gang. I love just about everything that I have seen with Julia in ("Pride
and Prejudice is my second favourite show along with anything on Sunday
nights on the ABC and "A Midwinters Tale" is one of my favourite movies.
CAUTION NOW THAT I HAVE STARTED TALKING ABOUT PROGRAMMES AND MOVIES THAT I
LIKE I COULD GO ON FOREVER SO IF YOU ARE STUDYING OR ARE VERY BUSY IT WOULD
PROBABLY BE WISEST TO STOP READING HERE
The problem is that hardly any of my friends like the same things that I do
and they just groan if I do so much as mention Dexter, Julia or any other
English actors. They also hate me discussing with my old English teacher
anything to do with the latest Shakespearian play of movie (did anyone else
see the four hour adaptation of "Hamlet").
It is interesting to note the different sorts of programmes that people on
this list like. They range from the "cultural" things like "Pride and
Prejudice", "Hamish MacBeth" and "Pie In The Sky" (did anyone else see Paul
Reynolds in that?) and "Jim Henson productions" to (in my opinion) less
dignified (I am saying this in a jokey way so don't get angry at me)
programmes such as "Friends" and "Mad About You". Theoretically as we all
like Press Gang, we should all like similar things. However one of the
reasons that this dosn't work is that Press Gang has such a range of topics,
such a range of genres that it covers and such a range of issues that it
looks at. Different people like different aspects of the programme. For
example one person might like it for the romance, another for the comedy and
yet another for the fantastic pay-outs and comebacks that can later be used
on people at school.
I am now going to be merciful to all you who are crazy enough to have
finished reading this and end the letter here.
Emily Hunt
P.S. It is nice to know that there is at least one other person who is still
at school, thanks to that American boy (sorry I forget your name) who
answered my letter about other people my age.
