However, at some point between series one and two, the building was
scheduled for demolition - hence they had to rush through as many
exteriors as possible and from that series onwards the newsroom
became a studio set - this also accounts for the differences between
series, as different studios were used for each series. I think.

that makes quite a bit of sense, because, in my marathon viewing of all the
epsidoes, i have so far noticed that the door is wood in series one and only
opens one way, while in series two, the door is (!) blue-ish green and swings
both ways. i must skip series three and four, because i have yet to watch
them, but in series five the door is back to being wood, only it swings both
ways.
