I don't think Spike is James. Remember in Love and War, Spike told Lynda
that he named himself Spike after the dog in Tom and Jerry(well, Lynda
made that asumption from what Spike had said, but he didn't deny it). I
just think he named himself that because he didn't want to be called James
because he felt that James was his father's name and he wanted to be
different. He might have been in the early stages of dislikeing his father
at the time and did not want to become him.
