[pressgang] Spike And Those Mystery Months in America

I have a question. Has there ever been any indication or guesses as to
what Spike did whenever he left the paper? I mean, the boy did quit
twice and return to America. What was he doing for all those months (6
months the first time and at least one or two the second)? Working,
hanging around looking good in jeans, what?
