I'm studying Macbeth in English, so all of this is probably just in my head,
but, all the same, here goes:
In Macbeth, as we all well know, Macbeth visits the Weird Sisters to find
out about his future. He sees three aparitions, and even tries speaking to
them, though the Weird Sisters say it will be of no good. He then demands
a fourth, which the Weird Sisters are reluctant to give, but do all the same.
It is this image that gets to Macbeth the most.

I'm sure based on only that you can find the reason for this post, that being
that Day Dreams is remarkably like that scene in Macbeth. In case you can't
remember, let me explain further:
Lynda is visited by Mr. Sullivan, who shows her the future in four images,
but she then demands a fifth. It is the fifth that goes to the heart of
Lynda. During the bit with Julie, she tries talking to Julie, though Mr.
Sullivan says it will be of no use.
The problems I see with these parallels are these: this means that Mr. Sullivan
takes the place of the Weird Sisters, that Day Dreams is not a tragedy, and
that for Lynda it is a dream from which she wakes.

eager for anyone to tell me to lay off the Shakespeare, or tell me that my
ideas are not entirely ill-founded,
