Okay, firstly, I have an on-topic question which I've wanted to ask for
a while. What were the ratings of PG like on it's first run... I think
this one has been asked before, and I don't know that anyone knew.
Something you may be able to tell me though, is exactly what was its
(so-called :) ) competition? Was there anything worthwhile on at the
same time? Did anyone have to watch one thing and record the other?

A bit less on-topic... (and very long)

I think that the differences in liking/not liking Ab Fab is likely to be
more than a US/UK&Aus divide. I mean, we all liked PG, didn't we
(although the humour in PG was not so much "British humour" in the way
other British shows might be said to be). I really got into AbFab at
first... I saw Julia was in it, which was what made it a must-see for me
from the start, and I did enjoy it at first. Unfortunately, the second
series was, for me, nowhere near the quality of the first, and the third
was just depressing to watch - the hit/miss ratio having dropped
significantly, and a lot of cheering at jokes from the audience rather
than laughing at them. I must agree with everyone else, though, with
complete objectivity PG-wise, that Julia was excellent in all three
series (I haven't seen the movie/special), as indeed was the Grandmother
(June Hatfeild??????). Often TV critics will pick out minor characters
to praise in reviews simply because they might otherwise be overlooked,
but the frequent adulation of that pair in reviews was well justified.

And way out of left feild...

For the uninitiated, "Bullpit" was a show based on an old series called
Kingswood Country... which I believe did make it to other shores. I
can't tell you to much about Bullpit, as I was generally out when it was
on, and pretty much avoided it like the plague anyway. Anyway, the main
thing I wanted to say was that I *think* (and *certainly* hope) Stash is
wrong about it being a top rating show; I understood it had been pretty
much canned because it wasn't being watched; then again, Stash is
probably more likely to know about these things than I... a lot of that
sort of thing went by without me noticing last year (ah, the joys of
research :)).

Oh well, that's all for now, sorry about the long (and partly off-topic)
post.
