Strangely, I noticed while reading the books that he seems to be given a
larger part in them. Not really as far as the plot is concerned (it
pretty much follows what was seen on screen), but he does get quite a
few scenes showing the workings of the paper - he goes in to see how the
printing presses work, and I think a bit of background is given (that he
likes being in the darkroom and so on) while he's developing some
photos.
