Natacha, don't throw the ashtray! This wasn't a question of ONE
incident, but the latest in a long string of suspensions for a variety of
things Sullivan clearly considers serious. If Spike wanted to argue the
facts with Sullivan, he had an opportunity at his hearing, which we saw
in PAGE ONE. Spike says nothing. Sarah has heard of the incident, Colin
has heard of it, and several students want Colin to see if Spike will
agree to do it again at the school sports day. Unless this is an urban
myth, I suspect it did happen.
Yes, Spike is willing to stretch the facts a little in order to make the
story appear more favorable to his own reputation. And by that same
definition, Spike would very much downplay what he did (You can't believe
everything you read in the papers.) if he thought Lynda would respond
favorably to that being the case. Judging by Lynda's reaction, he's
guessed right this time.

Neither can I, but I like to dream...and yes, teachers can be wrong. Our
class once or thrice tricked them into not giving tests, and once got out
of algebra early by faking the sound of a bell. If they were ever wrong
about me, I just smiled and maintained a sense of moral and intellectual
superiority that drove them nuts. Fortunately, I never posed a major
threat to the running of the school. I just made the occasional silly
remark and stayed on the honor roll the whole time.
