>At least you (probably) haven't seen this in French... This is a post script to my previous rant, because I was reminded when I re-read this comment of French TV's own efforts to provide light entertainment for young people. To be brutally frank, it makes American TV look stylish and classy. I think either French children are intellectually sub-normal or TV producers in France are sad patronising wankers without a half-decent idea to rub together (I guess the latter). There is a programme called 'Helene et les filles' (I think I'm remembering it correctly) which was supposedly aimed at teenagers but wouldn't have tested the mental capacity of a three year old. These Parisian students just sat around all day in the cafe talking about boys and snogging etc etc. It was immensely good fun, and Helene herself is quite delicious, but the show is not my idea of quality viewing. The person (ir)responsible for this is called Dorothee -- she treats all children as if they have been lobotomised at birth. Unfortunately she is a very powerful woman in French TV. But back to British TV -- there have been some extremely high quality children's drama serials recently, two prime examples being The Demon Headmaster (screenplay by Helen Cresswell of Bagthorpe Saga fame) and The Queen's Nose (based on the book by Dick King Smith). If they pop up on a screen near you, you'd do well to watch them. Anyway, I've had my say and now I'll shut up. Thank you for listening. dave xxx - * THE PRESS GANG MAILING LIST * * To unsubscribe from this list, send mail containing the * word "unsubscribe" to "pressgang-request@yoyo.org". * * By default, replies are directed back to this list, * not to the author of the message you're replying to. |
