(big time suckville) At least you (probably) haven't seen this in French -- they dub the voices over, and the one that plays Screech has an even more irritating whine of an excuse for a voice than the original. But what about Beverley Hills 90210 and Melrose Place? They're pretty good (though obviously in a totally different league to Press Gang) The US's next-door neighbours have a pretty good track record -- I'd say The Kids of Degrassi Street and Degrassi Junior High are almost up there with Press Gang for brilliance, but before you start flaming me, I strongly emphasise the 'almost', but I'd say they're at least in the same league... >The bottom line is that a TV network is a business like any other. But that's no excuse for making shit television. It's easy to explain why British television is better than American -- the Americans have far too many channels. In Britain, the TV-show producing talent is far more concentrated, but now that satellite TV is starting to take off, I fear British telly is going the same way -- you can see the symptoms in the schedules. The amount of rubbish they have to put on to fill up the air time is a sure sign of desperation setting in. Besides, you don't need all those channels. How can you possibly have time to watch them all? Sorry about that, but I feel better for getting it off my chest. dave xxx - * THE PRESS GANG MAILING LIST * * To unsubscribe from this list, send mail containing the * word "unsubscribe" to "pressgang-request@yoyo.org". * * By default, replies are directed back to this list, * not to the author of the message you're replying to. |
