[Sorry to those of you who haven't seen Wavelength yet... here's a spoiler space if you don't want to know about it yet] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Oh dear. I thought it was closer to The Lodge than PG. Ah well. The script just didn't work - the episode was spread over a few weeks but it had a "soapy" feel which just didn't work for me. It felt like a play. And did anyone else have a problem imagining those two nice well-brought-up boys spraying graffiti, which was hinted at? In fact the whole cast was nastily stereotyped; it's a shame that the age range they're aiming for is lower than PG, which I think is the main reason I didn't like it. Kind of sums up the way CITV has gone since the good old days of the likes of PG, Streetwise and Children's Ward. Anorak's guide: the producer, director and composer were the same as PG's (Sandra, Bill Ward, Peter Davis) and the script editor was Victor Gianella (sp?) who script-edited and wrote much of The Lodge. It's shot on video tape; I think running it through a filmy filter would have made it look less staged and more expensive. Like PG. :-) Not that it was all bad; there were some great lines in there just looking for some decent delivery, in particular the banter between the girl and the guys reminded me of Spike and Lynda. I hope Paul Cornell hasn't gone totally mainstream; his fanfic stuff is fantastic... shame that there's more money in writing for Corrie. :-( Well, that's my moan over, hopefully someone can point out all the good bits I missed. :-) Matt. -- M a t t S a u n d e r s http://www.yoyo.org/matts/ 0973 479515 -- | T H E P R E S S G A N G M A I L I N G L I S T | | | | By default, replies will go back to this list, not to | | the author of the message you're replying to. | | | | To unsubscribe from this list, mail the word | | "unsubscribe" to "pressgang-request@yoyo.org". | |
