I absolutely agree with this. There were scenes in the first few episode of PG which were, in my view, excellently written but the actors didn't seem to yet have a handle on the characters. I actually laughed out loud when I read the books, but then cringed when I finally saw some of the episodes. I was quite impressed with the overall standard of writing in Wavelength. I thought Paul parodied the whole local radio scene brilliantly. > Once the characters have established themselves, I think it could be > really great. This is true - There were exchanges in Wavelength which were very well played, and given a couple of weeks it will probably improve a great deal. --- And Vince enthusiastically said: > I have just this minute finished watching it and I thought it was > wonderful. I too felt some of the lines were excellent, and I agree with you on the rapport between the two boys. It'll be interesting to see what happens when they expand the cast to an ensemble as the infamous postcard seems to indicate. I also felt that it was quite 'adult' given the majority of kids drama on both channels at present. There was one remark about The Pet Shop Boys in particular which stood out. > Paul Cornell's script was > great with lots of sharp dialogue and a good quick pace to keep > things moving. Agreed on both points. > Given that the two main characters are clearly about 15 or 16 then > this would be about the same age as Lynda and Co. when PG started. > This is children's telly after all. I can't say it occurred to me at all. > The main difference here is that it's the girl who's doing the chasing > and the boy being all coy with the addition of his drooling best mate! On this point I disagree strongly - it looked like they were aiming for a similar type of feel, but I was unconvinced by that whole element. I loved the whole 'girl in a position of power' thing (very Lynda), but didn't see any tension between the girl and either of the guys. One more whinge - why have an American yet again played by a Brit - we all know America is 'cool with the kids' at the moment - but lady 'they could get a genuine American to play you' . ( Why does that line seem familiar ??? It's truly frightening when you say something and then spend half an hour trying to identify the episode from whence it came - I can see Colin in my head as I write ...... It's coming to me ...Bad News ???) > What do all the others in the UK think ? What, all four of us (or is that 5 ?) - I think we've all contributed now ;) Overall I certainly enjoyed it, taped it, and will be tuning in next week to how it progresses.
