Murray is fond of reminding me that it is summer where many of you
Aussies are, but if you haven't heard, there has been a very bad winter
storm that has rolled through the Northeastern US and SE Canada. Quebec
has been particularly hard hit, and many people are without power as a
result of the storm. Our fellow mailing list member Oliver is up in
Quebec and I don't know if he is able to read this, but I thought I'd say
we're thinking of you and hope you're doing well. I know we have some
other Canadians out there and if you're iced or snowed in, join the club.
There's only 3 inches of snow on the ground here in my corner of the
world (No, I don't know what that is in centimeters, but it goes up to
the top of your shoe if you step wrong.) and it is cold and wet. I know
because my boot sprung a leak and I walked six hours on my mail route
with a boot full of wet and cold slush! Eeew!

Speaking of my dear friend Murray, we have found a rather interesting
common ground--we both wish there was more of Sophie Newton on PG! It is
mentioned in the Programme Guide that Jeremy Hodge (who played Kevin)
seemed to always be the one whose lines got cut when episodes overran.
Was that true of Kate as well? Kate's character seems to always lurk in
the background, get one line, and Sophie (Or Sophy--it goes both ways in
the credits) does a pretty good job delivering it. For those new to PG,
Kate is the one Lynda picks to steal Chrissie Stuart's notes in "How to
Make a Killing" and is a rather uncritical fan of the tempermental Jason
Wood from "Friends Like These". Kate assumes the job of heading graphics
after Sam leaves. You'd expect a department head to get more than one
line once in a while, wouldn't you? But she doesn't, and Murray and I
were curious why.
