While we're on the thread of best & worst eps, if anyone is interested, you
could email me what in your opinion are the best ten and worst ten episodes,
and I will put together a collective list.

If you all need some thinking time (it's damn hard to get the order right,
and you have to be ruthless to call ten PG eps bad (perhaps the ten least
best eps:))) (nice triple bracket hey), you could get back to me in the next
couple of weeks and I will post the results shortly after that.

I already have Kevin "the ball roller" Nauta's (revised) list and as many
others as possible would be appreciated.

For what they're worth (2c, I suppose) here are my top tens (forgive some
duplication of comments with my reply to Kevin's post last week)

Jonathan's Best Ten Episodes

#1. AT LAST A DRAGON
For mine, Lynda's line to Spike just before they kiss is the best written
piece of television on any programme ever.
#2. THE LAST WORD (both parts)
Probably only number two because I hated waiting a week to find out what
happens (and because of the quality of ALAD)
#3. THE BIG HELLO
The best constructed PG storyline - plenty of twists and turns
#4. LOVE AND THE JUNIOR GAZETTE
Spike, Frazz and Sarah's scene near the start always cracks me up
Sp: ...was found dead in his apartment.
Fr: And a hospital spokesman described his condition as stable.
Sp: A mortuary spokesman described his condition as quite fresh and
with resellable kidneys.
#5. BAD NEWS
Seriously funny, and with some great in-jokes. Like series three, series
four starts with a bang.
#6. ROCK SOLID
Kenny's slowly changing reaction to Colin's idea is brilliant. I like Lee
Ross' music too - does anyone know if he ever recorded any material?
#7. IN THE PICTURE
One of Colin's best episodes - I still laugh all the way through it.
#8. CHANCE IS A FINE THING
Especially memorable for Colin, Judy and Spike in the restaurant.
#9. A QUARTER TO MIDNIGHT
Even though everyone likes to pick the plot to bits, it's still extremely
tense and exciting, and easily the best series five episode.
#10. THE WEEK AND PIZZA
Kenny's line to Sam when she's perched on his desk is brilliant.

Jonathan's Worst Ten Episodes
#1. PICKING UP THE PIECES
By a long margin
#2. UNXPECTED
Too much Frazz
#3. ONE EASY LESSON
Because it makes me cringe
#4. SHOULDN'T I BE TALLER
About the only episode where I really dislike Colin
#5. FRIENDLY FIRE
I don't like very much of Series five
#6. THERE ARE CROCODILES
#7. WINDFALL
Only saved by Colin's disaster in Julie's apartment
#8. SOMETHING TERRIBLE
Too much of Colin being serious.
#9. HOLDING ON
Suffers from an attack of the stupids, but partially redeemed by the ending
(the walkman)
#10. FOOD, LOVE AND INSECURITY
Only worth it for the kiss at the end.

Well, I'm glad I've got that off my chest. Apologies if I gave anything
away for those who may not have seen all the episodes. All the usual
disclaimers apply.
I look forward to receiving your lists.

And so Jonathan (who has caught the overuse of brackets virus), sails off
into the figurative sunset for the time being.
