On topic: >Hey, all. What's this with all the bloody acronyms? This is getting a >little, um, tough (Thank you, Raymond Adams) to follow, especially for >the newbies on the list I must admit, I had to pull up the lists to remind me what the acronyms were for. May I suggest that a more-or-less full title is used in the first instance in each post (even if it's just in the quotation of the previous mailer), and than using acronyms? >and those like me who work for the U.S. >Government and don't need any more acronyms to learn. Less on topic: I'm aware of this habit in the US - even when simple acronyms are available - more complex ones are created (eg Obstetrics and Gynecology ("a" removed out of respect for US spellings :)), which could simply be O&G, is referred to as O.B.G.Y.N.!). In Australia, we are just as bad with shortening words (we say "Obs and Gynae" (pron guy-nee)). Right out of the water: >KTN, USPS >Which in English translates into "That stupid letter carrier in >America" P.S. Murray, those words looked awfully familiar. Wonder >where I saw them last? :) Which words? I hope you are not suggesting that I've referred to you as "That stupid letter carrier in America" --- oh, maybe you're referring to the words in my post... mmm, they would look a little familiar... :) (annoys all and sunry with in-joke) Murray Usually at muzza@omen.net.au ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com -- T H E P R E S S G A N G M A I L I N G L I S T By default, pressing 'reply' will send mail back to the list, not to the author of the message you're replying to.
