Greetings all. Once upon a time, there was a line of thought going here where some of you offered your ideas on what the future would be of various PG characters. It was a while ago, but that might be where yours truly got himself noticed (and in some cases, banished to the doghouse) on the mailing list by putting up the idea that Spike and Sarah, um, well, you know.....never mind. Anyway, I've had occasion to give the matter some thought again while working on my writings, and I'll throw a few ideas at you on what my take on Season 6 would be like. 1. Whither the Junior Gazette? Lynda Day has big plans for reviving the Gazette in the wake of the "Crocodile" fire, but my thought is this is very premature. Bobby Campbell can't like the idea of the Junior Gazette making a habit out of missing sales quotas, and with the paper temporarily out of action, this might be an opening for him to either kill the paper outright, or downsize it into a feature for the parent paper and perhaps allow Kerr and Sullivan to reclaim what Lynda stole out from underneath them. 2. New career opportunities? Bobby Campbell is also a guy who knows what sells in the marketplace. What sells the Junior Gazette in his mind more than anything else? Answer: Spike and Lynda. If Campbell is a media magnate with his fingers in many pies--television, maybe?--might he decide the real future in the Junior Gazette is the love-hate relationship Spike and Lynda share and try to use that in a capacity that would be more useful to him? Would Spike and/or Lynda be willing to make the jump outside of the print media and become media celebrities? Or might Lynda and Spike decide to go into a political campaign on separate sides of an issue? 3. What would happen if Colin hadn't paid the insurance bill? Just a thought.... 4. Spike and Lynda. They are back together again, but how closely and for how long? Has Lynda's brush with death cured her of her guilt over David's death? Is Lynda ready to commit to Spike? And what is Katherine Hill going to do about her failure to break them up? Katherine will become more serious about causing trouble the more serious the relationship becomes. Oh yes, at some point in the "sixth" season, one of the two will propose to the other. Then the fun really begins.... And finally 5. The rest of the cast. You can bet Frazz will figure in as one who will try and break up Spike and Lynda, possibly in cahoots with Katherine, though I think not. Colin would love a chance to get into show business (Where you can actually see him as being almost plausible.) and would love to wangle himself in as an agent for Spike and Lynda. Julie doesn't figure highly in my view of the future. Tiddler might, if Kerr ever decides to try and put the Junior back in Junior Gazette. And then there's Sarah. Sarah's not around much and ordinarily wouldn't figure in anything going on in a "sixth season" Junior Gazette if it survived, but her continuing friendship with Spike could always prove an irritant to the always suspicious Lynda Day. I don't see Sarah and Lynda as close, though Sarah will try to repair the breach. Anyway, that's my thoughts for the evening. Or some of them, since I've been kicking some stuff around with Murray, Natacha, and Karen in the background that may come out in some form someday. Then you really will see what a disturbed creature I am! Kevin (Who decided not to write about Spike and Peri meeting up anywhere. Sorry, Murray.) -- T H E P R E S S G A N G M A I L I N G L I S T By default, pressing 'reply' will send mail back to the list, not to the author of the message you're replying to.
