Thanks Dave, thats a good post. I'm sort of tired now so I'm not gonna post your exact quotes but they're pretty thought provoking. I guess you gotta take the bad with the good, but I don't really care all that much. There is a lot a good stuff on British TV, American TV, Candadian, Australian, etc....but I imagine they all have their share of crap as well. Like I said I don't watch all that much telly and definately don't feel qualified to wax philosophical about subjects like ratings, demographics, market selection, and those sort of things, but there is a lot of good stuff out there if you look for it. When I watch T.V. its usually stuff like Comedy Central, Cable News Network, Arts and Entertainment, Discovery Channel, Bravo, and ESPN sports channel. These are all really good channels and most usually about the only things worth watching in the States, that is, if you got cable. Which I suspect might be part of your point? That is, the BBC and similar British networks show that kind of stuff as the norm and for free? I know for a fact that a lot of American shows are exported on a massive basis all over the world. Hell, I've even heard that David Hasselhoff and Baywatch are all the rage in Germany. Why? - I don't know. (jump in here any time Erik). Personally, I've never really cared for any of those formula type shows, shows like Baywatch, Melrose Place, and 90210, but lot of people around the world do and thats cool I suppose. I just don't feel they portray a very flattering image of American culture, or at least not one that I care to identify with. I mean, lets face it, MTV has rotted far more brains than mad cow disease ever will. Ultimately, I think most people watch too much TV anyway and ought to turn the damn thing off once in a while and read a book or play a sport, or whatever trips their trigger. However, I do know this is easier said than done. Cause lets face it, its all to easy to come home at the end of a long day, pop a beer, and plop down on the couch to stare at the box. I'm still guilty of this as much as anyone ever was. 90 degree about face to PG I got a question maybe somebody out there in the great big world can answer. 1. Whats the deal in that one episode, I believe its Rock Solid (?) where Kenny and Collin are talking in the cafe about Kenny doing this rock concert. Did I really hear what I think I did? In a so called kids show none the less? Collin asks Kenny where he sees himself in ten years time and Kenny responds something like ....(I see my being nice to people in a new and older age group, being dumped by every single girl I go out with for being unbareably nice, and not being able to finish a single sentence without the words "fuck Linda". Not that I care at all, but I found that really peculiar. I mean, I've probably rewound that scene a thousand times and although its kind of muted and downplayed its definately there. That right there is a perfect example of dialogue that would not yet make it past American network censors. But anyhow, I gotta get some sleep, and I'm betting you feel the same way if you read all this. May the road always rise to meet you, May the wind always be at your back and all that.
