What a wild overgeneralization....among the characters who were written out but NOT
killed off would be Sam, Sophie and Laura, Sullivan and Winters, Julie Craig,
Lynda's mother, Chrissie Stuart, etc. etc.

As for the deaths Eavan mentioned not affecting the paper, Mary Brien's death in
THE REST OF MY LIFE certainly affected Spike and arguably led him to return to
America when Lynda wouldn't commit to him. It is never explicitly stated that
Virginia Hume died--only that she was very ill. Tiddler never gets another chance
to have the lead story on the paper after the Hume piece, as far as we're able to
see.
