Okay, this is only a tentative explanation, but the theory goes
something like this...

In Australia, with a population of about 18 million, we have a limited
children's television market, and therefore few series are made locally,
and of those that are made, they are pretty dull and/or repetitive. So,
in order to find a worthwhile and entertaining programme, it is necessary
to look overseas. The television stations don't show many foreign (ie.
American or British) television programmes specifically for children. Out
of the few that they do, I suppose each build up a kind of following.
Because America and Britain have much larger markets for children's TV,
there are many more products available in the market place (gosh, that
sounds an awful lot like my last marketing assignment), and therefore,
many more for an individual viewer to choose. But in Australia, because
we are starved for real television, those of us who become obsesseive
about these kind of things have very few shows to choose from, and
therefore classy shows like PG get good followings because they are
extremely rare.

My, that paragraph was not particularly eloquent, but I hope that my point
was kind of clear amidst all of that drivel.
