What is it about 'A Night In'? Yesterday, because I have been extremely
slack in checking my email, I had to clear out 400 mailing-list emails
from my in-box - and that was only over the space of two weeks! Anyway,
while reading the emails people wrote about the first episodes they saw of
PG, I noticed that more than any other, the first episode seen by people
was ANI. That was the first one I saw, too, in 1992, and after about two
minutes, I was hooked. I wonder why that episode in particular was so
addictive? I mean, a fair amount of character background was needed to
understand a lot of the plot. Actually, I think the reason why I was
hooked was because Dexter Fletcher had been on the Bill a couple of weeks
before hand, playing a gypsy called Sean with an Irish accent, and I
recognised him from that. So I kept watching. By the following
Wednesday, when I went away on a camp, I had to ask my sister to record
the episodes that I was going to miss (How to Make a Killing, pts 1 and 2)
I think that to become addicted to a show after three episodes shows
pretty good writing, another indicator that Steven Moffatt was the main
reason behind PG's popularity.

Ciao!
Catherine, who has to go to a *dull* statistics lecture in two minutes.
