Much as I am loathe to start another nationalistic flame war but this goes
too far!! IT IS MOST INSULTING THAT ANYONE WOULD EVER CALL WALTZING
MATILDA THE ANTHEM OF AUSTRALIA. I, and many others, LOATHE WM and shiver
with disgust that anyone could ever associate this song with our country.
This is of course not your fault, it is the fault of the unscrupulous
moronic losers who keep perpetuating the myth that WM is somehow not only
liked but respected as a cultural icon. Most australians I know think WM
is the stupidest song in the world, and it is a major cultural
embarassment. We HAVE an anthem and it is a FANTASTIC song, full of pride
and power. It is called Advance Australia Fair. I will send anyone the
words if they ask.
So please, don't believe the myth, and don't risk insulting us because of a
terribly insulting stereotype. I'm sorry, I know its not your fault, but
this is a very sensitive issue, and I felt I could not remain silent in the
face of such a cultural insult, even if it was unintentional.
OK, I've said my piece. Now we can return to Press Gang.
